The Right Brain Initiative
We are excited to be a part of The Right Brain Initiative for the 11th year! This means we will once again have a school-wide Artist in Residence experience for all of our classes, K-5, here at Hogan Cedars, as well as having our teachers participate in arts integration professional development during the 2023-24 school year. We are excited for the creative possibilities for your children! Each year we will receive more and more art training, continue to have Artists in Residency experiences, and provide more art integration experiences for your children!
During the 2023-24 Artist in Residence experience students will have the opportunity to work with another amazing artist. Julie Keefe will engage the students in the art of photography. Your children will have a fabulous experience!
We are fortunate to be one of the 65 plus schools in five different school districts to be a part of The Right Brain Initiative!
There are four main goals for The Right Brain Initiative:
- Integration: Teachers, artists, art specialists and other members of the school community will work together as partners to integrate art education and other curriculum areas.
- Equity: All students will have access to quality experiences in multiple art forms.
- Art Processes: Students will create and perform/exhibit works of art created by themselves and others.
- The 4 C’s: The Right Brain Initiative supports students in Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking. These are the skills children need to succeed in the 21st Century and we will include the 4 C’s in our work with children and artists.
Our Right Brain work is sponsored by the Regional Arts & Culture Council and Gresham-Barlow School District. We are excited to be a part of this incredible endeavor!
